Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon is seeking a permanent, full-time
Physician Assistant to compliment his existing practice
which is located in the four-season mountain community of
Flagstaff, Arizona. The ideal Physician Assistant will
provide medical, administrative, and surgical assistance to
the Spine Surgeon. The PA will work directly with the Spine
Surgeon, handling some general orthopaedic cases and a
variety of complex spine cases, in both the OR and clinic
setting. Successful candidate should be able to work well in
a fast-paced environment, have a great bed-side manner and
be willing to work 45 to 55 hours a week. Surgeon is willing
to train the right applicant.
Responsibilities include: H&P's, patient evaluation and
education, obtain diagnostic testing and review, surgical
first assist, write RX, travel to additional clinic in
Kingman Arizona with surgeon to provide clinical care for
patients twice a month, share hospital call with surgeon 2-4
times a month, rounding/discharge patients in recovery care
facilities.

The HCP shall perform essentially the same duties as those
required of any Medical Corps Officer or Government Civil
Service Physician Assistant of similar experience and in
similar duty assignments.
The HCP's duties shall include, but are not limited to the
following:
Provide evaluation and management of urgent or emergent
problems as such patients present for care.
Be responsible for the medical management of his/her
patients when in clinic.
Examine patients to determine extent of complaint and
provide outpatient services as required. Counsel the patient
with reference to the options that are available including
no treatment. Carefully outline the procedure planned, the
expected result and the possible complications.
Review reports of patient's general physical condition,
reactions to medications, and medical history.
Examine instruments, equipment and surgical setup to ensure
that antiseptic and aseptic methods have been followed.
Consult with supervising physicians to insure appropriate
care provided.
Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the
Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Consult with other providers concerning patients and
surgical conditions. Such direction and interaction will
adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and
accepted clinical protocols.
Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including
annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care
skills through education and counseling.
Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant
others' rights, as identified within the institution.
Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in all aspects of
patient care and unit function and strive to manage
situations in a reduced risk manner.
Participate in peer review and performance improvement
activities.
Demonstrate appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in
the direction and coordination of health care team members,
patient care, and clinic activities.
Complete continuing education to meet own professional
growth and specialty standards.
Prepare all records and reports as required in support of
services rendered and as required by the MTF standard
operating procedures, federal law or Army regulation.
Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care
conferences, team conferences, professional staff
conferences and other appropriate professional activities
only to the extent that such attendance and participation is
related to his/her assigned cases and/or performance of
contract services as determined by the supervisor.
